The Rogue Husband 100 word short story by Sylvia Hubbard
After a beautiful night of lovemaking with her husband of thirteen years, she went downstairs to fix breakfast. When the stove wouldn't light she went through husband's jacket for his lighter only to pull out a note with the name of a nearby motel name and a room number. Not believing the suspicion that went through her mind, she started for the bedroom, but noticed the shirt her husband had worn last night in the hamper. She saw the lipstick smudge on the collar that was not hers and the faint perfume smell that reminded her of her sister's unique brand.
He would have to take the blame for it, or would he? He couldn't explain his actions and didn't know if he could speak with the police about what he had done. Yet as he looked over the bodies of his wife and her lover still lying naked in bed together he smiled wickedly as a deceit crept over his mind like a warm blanket. Wiping the handle clean, he placed the knife into her dead lover's hand and stepped out the room. No one would know that he had gotten an earlier flight back home.
